Explore Victoria Park – Ilkeston’s Historic Gem

A Brief History of Victoria Park

Victoria Park, established in 1897, was initially enclosed by iron railings and featured four gates. Despite the absence of the original railings and gates, the park continues to be a picturesque haven with its well-maintained flowerbeds, trees, shrubs, and vast lawns, perfect for leisurely walks. On August 20, 1902, the Duke of Rutland, at the age of 84, inaugurated the park, bestowing upon it the name Victoria Park and commemorating the event by planting an oak tree, which has grown to become a prominent feature.
